7 Benefits of Having a Picnic

Hula hoop contest at outdoor party

After a busy week at work, not to mention a grueling year, a picnic is just what the doctor would prescribe for the entire family. If you’re not the “picnic type” or simply don’t have a reason to pack up the family van for a picnic, here are a few benefits you should consider.

1. Breathe in the fresh air!

Whether you work from home or you’re back at the office, breathing in indoor air for an entire day is just not good for you. When you have a picnic, you’ll be breathing in fresh air that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead of you.

2. Bond with family and friends.

You don’t need to go on a fancy vacation or plan an extravagant party to reconnect with family and friends. A simple picnic with a few snacks and light dishes is all you need to have a great time catching up with loved ones. A picnic is a fun and relaxing way to build memories and enjoy the presence of others.

3. Let go of stress.

When we step outside, it’s as if our body automatically releases stress. Something about the openness of the outdoors and the blue sky signals to our bodies to take a deep breath and relax. When you’re cooped up inside all day, you tend to focus on the endless list of tasks you need to get done by the end of the day, rather than being grateful for each day.

4. Take a moment to reflect.

As you’re breathing in that fresh air, your mind will shift gears and reflect on the many things you have to be grateful for — from family and friends, to a roof over your head and a warm meal. Whether you have a solo picnic or invite a few friends, a picnic is a great opportunity to step back and meditate on the things that truly matter.

5. Enjoy a healthy mood boost.

When you get some sun, you’ll automatically be rewarded with a side-effect free mood boost that even coffee can’t beat. Fresh air, sunshine, and a nice breeze are the key ingredients to a happier you.

6.Get some free vitamin D.

Everyone needs vitamin D to build strong bones and teeth. If you rarely go outside, you run the risk of developing a vitamin D deficiency and getting sick with osteoporosis and other bone diseases.

7. Enjoy healthy (and yummy) picnic food.

While you’re outdoors, you might as well enjoy some delicious and nutritious food! If cooking is not something you want to worry about, then give Picnic People a call and we’ll bring the picnic to you!
