Tips For A Fun And Safe Picnic

Most of us took picnics for granted — until COVID-19 hit and the world was forced into lockdowns and required to practice social distancing and wear masks. Now that government restrictions are being lifted, here are a few ways to have fun and stay safe at your next picnic.

Choose a Location

With so many families eager to enjoy the outdoors and let their kids run around, you might be surprised to find that your favorite park is packed with people. So consider having a picnic in your backyard, rather than at a park. Otherwise, plan to visit parks during off-times to avoid crowds.

Neighborhood parks may be a better option if large city parks are attracting large crowds. Since you only need a few feet of grass, no need to go to a large, possibly packed, city park.

Pack the Essentials

Don’t forget to bring hand sanitizer to keep you and your loved ones safe and clean. Be aware that public bathrooms may be closed and water fountains may be turned off.

If you don’t want to sit on the ground, bring lawn chairs or a few pillows to sit on.

Prep in Advance

Think about which foods you’d like to bring. A few easy options include pita chips, potato chips, dips, a cheese and meat platter, fruit, nuts and dessert, such as chocolate, cookies or brownies.

If you’d like to take your picnic up a notch — or two — order from the Picnic People delivery menu. In addition to all of the typical picnic items you might expect, we’ve got brisket, smoked turkey breast, St. Louis style pork ribs, pulled pork, cowgirl links, Parker House rolls, Brioche slider buns and so much more!

Bring Games

Whether you like card games, board games, or smartphone app games, bring a few games that everyone will enjoy — something for the kids and something for the adults.

Don’t Forget to Clean Up!

After you’ve enjoyed the sunlight and fresh air, be mindful of the picnickers who will come after you and politely pick up after yourself. You’ll help to keep the park clean and welcoming for everyone and reduce the burden on park maintenance staff.
