Your Go-To Guide For San Diego Tailgating

Celebrate tailgating season with food, fun, and festivities brought to you by San Diego’s favorite picnic planners, Picnic People. Our San Diego catering team regularly fills the parking lots with the best tailgating food and games in town.

To ensure your next San Diego tailgating party meets the epic expectations of your guests, be sure to keep the following tips in mind.

1. Make a reservation.

Parking lots are a great place to host a tailgating party. The Inner Rings, Outer Rings, North Lot, and RV areas offer plenty of space to set up tents with food, games, and tables. Once you’ve chosen a lot, contact Ace Parking to make the reservation.

2. Know the access points.

Before sending out invitations, find out which access point is closest to the parking lot you’ve chosen. Clearly mark the access point to make it easy for guests to find you. It’s also a good idea to create a layout before you arrive to save time and make the setup smooth and quick.

3. Review permit requirements.

Next, make sure the catering company you hired has obtained the necessary permits and insurance to serve food and beverages.

4. Arrive early.

Plan to arrive four hours before the game starts to give you plenty of time to set up. RVs can enter five hours prior to the game.

5. Decorate the tailgating station.

Show your team spirit by decorating the tents, tables, and activity booths in team colors. Encourage guests to wear a team jersey, pain their face with team colors, and pick up some beads. A face painting station is sure to be a hit with guests of all ages and foster team pride. And don’t forget the music to get everyone excited about the game!

6. Offer a variety of drinks.

At tailgating parties, drinks go faster than food, so be sure to offer a broad range of beverages, from hard alcohol and premier local brews, to non-alcoholic drinks like juice, soda, smoothies, and water.

7. Serve popular tailgating food.

Food that you absolutely must serve at your next tailgating event include hot dogs, burgers, corn on the cob, and watermelon. If you’d like to focus on the fun and leave the cooking to the professionals, call Picnic People for a consultation!
