5 Fresh Themes For Your Next Spring Picnic

Hosting a picnic in San Diego is a great way to celebrate a variety of occasions, including birthday parties (especially for young children), baby showers, spring holidays (such as Easter), engagement parties, graduation, and bridal showers. Even if you don’t have a special occasion to celebrate, a picnic could be a great way to catch up with friends.

As you begin planning your spring picnic, here are a few themes to consider:

1. Alice in Wonderland

Springtime is perfect for an Alice in Wonderland picnic. If you have a nice garden, host the picnic in your backyard. You could also use paper roses for decorations. Ask guests to dress up as a character from Alice in Wonderland and have a competition rating the costumes.

Make Cheshire Cat sugar cookies, Eat Me mini cookies, Queen of Tomato Tarts, Marshmallow Cubes with Raisin Spots, and Playing Card Sandwiches.

2. Romantic Getaway

Thinking of doing a couples’ picnic? You could have it at a local park, vineyard, beach, or in the mountains. Your loved one could also enjoy a picnic at a drive-in theater, local lake, or your living room.

You’ll need to bring a few blankets, roses, electric candles, and a charcuterie board. Swap ham sandwiches for roasted beef baguettes, cookes for fine chocolate, and soda for sparkling wine.

3. Buzzworthy Bee

Host a picnic with vibrant yellow flowers and black accent decor to bring out the bee theme. Display honeycombs, cheerios, and other bee-themed cereals in glass containers. Mini bumble bee candies can also be a great addition.

Don’t forget to make honeycomb-shaped waffles topped with honey, whipped cream, and edible bee candy. Ask guests to dress in yellow or black and give them some honeycomb or jam to take home after the picnic.

4. Pastels & Flowers

Spring is for pastels and flowers. Get creative with flower arrangements or consider hosting your picnic in a field of wildflowers. Bring a wooden basket, checkered blanket, and a bucket filled with egg candies. Serve strawberry ice cream in hollowed-out lemon halves and cover donuts in pastel-colored frosting.
