Yummy Kid-Friendly Picnic Recipes

When it comes to planning picnic foods for kids, it’s hard to go wrong. Simple finger foods like pretzel sticks and trail mix are easy to make and will keep kids occupied while you take a breath of fresh air. 

Here are a few food ideas for your next family picnic in San Diego.

1. Chicken & Bacon Roll-Ups

These can be made with meat leftovers, or with canned chunk white chicken. You’ll also need cream cheese, salsa, bacon, and flour tortillas.

2. Mustard Pretzel Nuggets

Though you can buy these nuggets at the store, this homemade version is much tastier and less expensive. You’ll need six cups of sourdough pretzel nuggets, ⅓ cup of prepared mustard, two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of cider vinegar, ½ teaspoon of onion powder, ½ teaspoons of garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon of ground mustard.

3. Crunchy Granola Pretzel Sticks

You could make these pretzel sticks a number of ways, but here’s one recipe that’s sure to be a hit with the kiddos. To make a dip for 24 pretzel rods, you’ll need one package of dark chocolate chips and some granola without raisins.

Everything seems to taste better on a stick. And easier to eat. Simply cut sandwich bread into one inch squares, and alternate threading grapes, banana slices, and bread onto each skewer. No dripping jam and no mess.

Create your own granola trail mix with one package of banana nut granola, one package of raisins, one can of honey-roasted peanuts, and one package of milk chocolate M&Ms. You could also toss in mini marshmallows, corn chips, or cookie bits.
